Nicholas Bertha JD,
President
Mr. Bertha works with clients on complex estate and income tax issues, and helps ultra-high-net-worth families manage their wealth. He has expert-level capability in tax law, wealth transfer, and trusts & estates. His extensive career, spanning over 30 years, includes prominent positions at Credit Suisse, DLJ and US Trust Company, where he led the Financial Counseling Group for many years. His work has been published in leading journals including Trusts & Estates Magazine and the Tax Lawyer. He is currently on the Conference Board of the Trust & Wealth Management Division of the American Bankers Association. Mr. Bertha has a BA and JD from Marquette University and a MS in Taxation from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee campus.

H. Russell Holland,
Director
Mr. Holland brings over 30 years’ banking experience to Fieldpoint Private. Prior to Fieldpoint, he served as EVP, Chief Credit Officer at SouthCrest Bank in Atlanta, where he led the bank’s commercial, consumer and residential lending functions. Previously, Mr. Holland held several leadership roles at Seacoast Bank in Florida, including Chief Lending Officer and Chief Banking Officer.
Before joining Seacoast, he was Market President for Union Bank of Florida (now BB&T) in the Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast markets, responsible for expanding that bank’s presence throughout the region. He also served as Union’s Chief Lending Officer. Mr. Holland held numerous senior level credit positions at Barnett Bank and Bank of America, including leadership roles in real estate capital markets and financial services. Mr. Holland was Chief Financial Officer at a private REIT in Miami, and began his career with KPMG Peat Marwick in Stamford, CT, Miami, FL and Charlotte, NC. Mr. Holland holds a B.S. in accountancy from Wake Forest University.
Jason Nomsen,
Compliance Officer
Mr. Nomsen joined South Dakota Trust Company in February 2021 as a Compliance Specialist in the SDTC Services group. He joins the compliance team that includes Tom Cota and Louise Sandoval. Prior to joining SDTC, he was employed with the South Dakota Division of Banking and Sageworth Trust Company of South Dakota. Mr. Nomsen graduated from University of Minnesota Morris in 2011 with B.A. in Financial Management. He holds CTFA and CFIRS designations.
James Steffen,
Trust Officer
Mr. Steffen joined South Dakota Trust Company in August 2020 as a Trust Officer in the SDTC Services group. He works with the trust administrative team that includes Shannon Walker and Laurie Johnson. Prior to joining SDTC, Mr. Steffen was employed with Citi Trust for 14 years. He earned his B.A. in both Accounting and Business Administration from Augustana in 2005. He holds a CTFA designation.
Nick Stonestreet,
Director
Nick has more than 30 years of financial services experience and has managed a broad spectrum of wealth management businesses. Prior to joining DLP Capital, he served as CEO of Blue Trust. Prior to that, he co-founded and was CEO of Vident Financial, an investment management firm. He also served as Regional Head of Private Wealth Management for Regions Financial. Before that, he worked at Merrill Lynch in several capacities including chief executive officer of Merrill Banc Suisse and global head of international trust and wealth structuring, global co-head of private wealth services, and director of private banking. He was also the director of Private Banking in Amsterdam, NL. In addition, Nick has been chief executive officer at BCR and started his career at Sun Trust Bank. Nick earned his master’s degree in international business studies from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.
Matthew Tobin,
Secretary and Treasurer
Matthew Tobin is the Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer and Legal Counsel of the South Dakota Trust Company LLC. Mr. Tobin is also a member of the management committee of the SDTC Related Companies. Mr. Tobin was previously a member of the law firm Siegel, Barnett & Schutz, LLC in Sioux Falls, where his practice focused on general and business litigation, negotiations, mediation, and alternate dispute resolution. Prior to that, he was a partner in the law firm of Johnson, Heidepriem, Miner, Marlow & Janklow, LLP, also in Sioux Falls.
Mr. Tobin attended St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994, with an emphasis in political science / government and economics, after which he spent approximately two years working for United States Senator Thomas Daschle in Washington, D.C. and Sioux Falls.
Mr. Tobin attended the University of South Dakota School of Law and received his Juris Doctorate in 1998. He went on serve as a law clerk for the Honorable Roger Wollman, Chief Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit. Mr. Tobin is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of South Dakota, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association.
